The Ship House in Carmel California

Heather from the I Love Carmel California site told me she met the owner of The Ship House and said she and her husband would be delighted to give us a tour of their home.

Several weeks ago we visited Lorna and her husband, George, in their very unusual home called The Ship House.

Allen Knight, collector of all things nautical, built a stone ship's cabin, it was a three year project started in 1936 on a lot next to his home. The door is a door from a ship.

The interior has ship's "knees," along the walls.

The door to the left of the desk is to the small bathroom, you must duck slightly to go in.

The bed was in one corner, complete with portal windows and sand dollar pillows, they are keeping with the nautical theme.

The compact kitchen has a sign from an old sailing ship, Aurora, that sunk many years ago.

We climbed the narrow stairs to the viewing deck with windows all around.

No ship or Ship House is complete without a ship's wheel, this is also from the Aurora.

We thank Lorna and George for the interesting tour of a most unusual home in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California.
